KUALA LUMPUR: The Government has paid tribute to Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar for his grand efforts as Inspector-General of Police, describing him as an extraordinary police chief.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said with Khalid at the helm, problems were solved with utmost professionalism.

“He remained steadfast no matter what the pressure was. One of the successes of the police force under him was Op Cantas Khas which reduced violent crimes greatly.

“I salute him and all that he has done for the police force and country,” he said in a ceremony to witness the handing over of reins from Khalid to Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun at Pulapol yesterday. Khalid, who assumed the post in 2013, said he had no regrets in a police career spanning 41 years.

“I have given my all and there is no unfinished business. It was an honour to serve as a police officer and I am looking forward to my retirement,” he said, extending his congratulations to Mohamad Fuzi.

The farewell for Khalid, who turned 60 today, was complete with a guard of honour and marchpast. A police band was in attendance.

Also present was Khalid’s wife Puan Sri Imran Ibrahim.

Dr Ahmad Zahid announced that Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim would remain Deputy IGP but with an improved payscale.
