Couple on motorbike killed and driver flees hospital
BATU PAHAT: Police are looking for the driver of a black Perodua Viva after it was involved in an accident with a motorcycle that killed a couple in Jalan Bukit Pasir.
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Wahib Musa said Wahadi Jamos, 62, and his wife Rokiah Jangi, 65, from Parit Lapis, Seri Medan near here, were travelling on their motorcycle from Tongkang Pecah to Bandar Penggaram at around 7.15am yesterday when they were hit by the car.
He added that the car, which was in the opposite direction, suddenly veered into the couple’s path, colliding headon with the victims.
The driver of the car and his female passenger were both unconscious and sent to Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail, said ACP Abdul Wahib.
He said the driver ran off after he regained consciousness.
“The female passenger is believed to be under the influence of drugs.”
According to eyewitnesses, the car was speeding and swerving dangerously before the accident.
“Police did not rule out that the driver was also high on drugs,” ACP Abdul Wahib said.
He urged the driver to surrender or the police would go after him.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.
