THE boss of a construction firm is determined to retake the SPM Chinese language paper despite his busy schedule, reported Sin Chew Daily.

Ekovest Bhd managing director Datuk Seri Lim Keng Cheng has been learning the subject with his six “senior” classmates every Tuesday night since January.

The group is preparing for the examination in November.

Lim, who is also the vice-chairman of the SMJK Chong Hwa’s board of directors, said he merely passed the subject when he took the exam years ago.

The 55-year-old businessman said he would try to get a credit for the subject this time around.

Some of his friends had asked him whether he would feel ashamed if he failed the subject but Lim said he had nothing to lose and would retake the subject.

He also encouraged students to sit for the SPM Chinese language paper.

Lim said he had a different feeling after going back to study again after 30 years.

He added that he got a chance to know more about the needs of students after he became one again.

Association of Malaysia is considering sending legal letters to children of members who failed to pay back study loans, reported China Press.

Its president Ho Sai Chong said 12 of them had graduated since 2010, but had yet to pay back the study loans despite being requested to do so numerous times.

Ho said they were supposed to start paying back the loan in 2013 as they should have been working for some time by then.

He said each of them had taken up loans of between RM20,000 and RM40,000.

They should return the money so that other students could benefit from it, Ho added.

> The daily also reported that Hong Kong artiste Andy Lau would celebrate his 56th birthday with his fans this month although he has yet to fully recover from the injuries suffered while filming a commercial near Bangkok.

An invitation card to his birthday party, to be held on Sept 16, was posted on his fan page recently.

His fans were delighted upon reading the exciting news.

Every year, Lau celebrates his birthday with his fans. His actual birthday is Sept 27.
