Rachel hoping for some luck as she pulls up her pink socks

-

PETALING JAYA: National squash player Rachel Arnold is hoping to keep the famed pink socks she inherited from her sister – Delia.

Former world No. 12 Delia, who retired in January, was well known on the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Tour for her knee-high pink socks.

The 21-year-old Rachel borrowed it for good luck as she attempted to defend her singles gold medal at the SEA Games last month.

Unfortunately, the world No. 50 had to settle for silver after losing 13-15, 11-13, 7-11 to teammate S. Sivasangari.

Rachel is hoping to pull up her pink socks again as she turns her focus to the PSA Tour.

“I got it from Delia because I wanted to keep it in the family and also bring some luck for myself,” said Rachel.

“But it just didn’t go my way against Sivasangari.

“I thought I could have done better.

“I still have to work on my fitness as I just didn’t feel as fit and couldn’t last the pace.

“I’m also hoping Delia will give me these socks so I can keep wearing them and luck will eventually come my way.”

Rachel is the top seed in the Malaysian Tour Squash Circuit (SSJM) No. 10 which starts at the NSC Squash Centre in Jalan Duta today.

She has a first-round bye and takes on either compatriots Ooi Kah Yan or M. Kiroshanna in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
