MELAKA: A 26-year-old female doctor from Melaka Hospital was allegedly molested by a patient who was undergoing a cardiac test, the second time a doctor was attacked in the hospital in just over a year.

The patient allegedly molested her during a health screening at the emergency and trauma department of the hospital.

It is learnt the patient touched the doctor’s private parts while she was conducting a medical check behind the screen.

The patient also made remarks to the female doctor that she smelt fragrant.

The doctor lodged a police report against the 37-year-old patient at the Melaka Tengah police headquarters at 8pm on Sept 3.

“I was briefed on the incident and the hospital will leave the matter to the police,” said Melaka Health, Sport Development and AntiDrugs deputy committee chairman Datuk Ng Choon Koon.

He said this was the second such incident at the same hospital in 13 months.

As such, he would propose that a nurse or medical assistant be around during health screenings.

Ng said a motion would be tabled at the state assembly on the need to accompany medical staff for non-emergency cases at government hospitals, clinics and private medical institutions.

There will also be a clause to include emergency buttons at medical screening sections.

In the previous incident on Aug 18, 2016, a patient allegedly flashed a 26-year-old female doctor.

The 48-year-old patient had sought treatment for injuries on his left thigh but instead exposed his groin and grabbed the medical officer’s hand and placed it on his private parts, claiming he was experiencing pain there.

The doctor left the ward following the incident. Ng said no one had witnessed the incident as doctor and patient were behind a screen in the medical room.

He said there were patients who also claimed that doctors had sexually abused them during check-ups.

Ng noted that in April, a 24-year-old male patient claimed that a doctor at a private hospital wanted to provide oral sex as part of his treatment for diarrhoea.

The patient lodged a report at Merlimau police station, alleging that the doctor had stripped him waist down and made suggestive remarks.
