Siege on Larkin

Selangor ready to end JDT’s perfect home record

- By ERIC SAMUEL

PETALING JAYA: Selangor are hell-bent on ruining Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) proud record at their fortress – Larkin Stadium.

The Southern Tigers are unbeaten in 39 matches at home in all competitions since their 2-1 loss to Felda United in the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals in 2015.

And the Red Giants believe they can achieve this feat when they take them on in a crucial Malaysia Cup Group D match on Saturday.

The outcome of this game will also determine their quarter-final opponents – Group C winners Kedah or runners-up Melaka.

Super League champions JDT with 10 points are ahead of Selangor on goal difference.

Red Giants skipper Razman Roslan said their main mission is to beat JDT at all costs.

“We are not concerned who our last eight opponents are. It does not matter whether it’s Kedah or Melaka. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

“We have a huge game on Saturday and we want the three points.

“We are confident as we have beaten them twice in three meet- ings this season. We are aware of their strength at home but we have not lost to them this season. We should be able to beat them,” said Razman.

Selangor won the Malaysia Cup Group D match 3-2 on July 18 and edged the Southern Tigers 2-1 in the Super League last month (Aug 5) in Shah Alam. Their first meeting in the Super League ended in a stalemate (0-0) at the Larkin Stadium in February.

Razman said ultimately they are looking at a spot in the final.

“We want to make amends for our fans. We lost to Kedah in a penalty shootout (6-5) in last year’s final.

“What made it worse was we lost in our own den.”
