-

EFFORTS to create a “Little India” commercial area in Nibong Tebal, Penang, will continue despite the rejection of an application for it, said Nibong Tebal MP Datuk Mansor Othman.

Makkal Osai reported that he said a large Deepavali bazaar would be held for a week at the Kwong Hock Keong Temple compound from Oct 9.

Other attractions at the bazaar would include a festival, cultural performances and a saree pageant.

The bazaar itself will feature 40 to 50 stalls, some free of charge, for traders in the surrounding estates, such as Caledonia, Changkat and Kerian.

There will also be service stalls by various state agencies related to crops, livestock and fisheries, as well as one by the Penang Development Corporation.

> A plantation owner in Karnataka, India, is being investigated after he allegedly locked up an employee who failed to pay back a loan on time, Tamil Nesan reported.

The owner, who was only identified as Kishan, apparently lent 4,000 rupees (RM264) to his worker Harish who then left his job at the plantation.

When Kishan asked for his money back on Aug 29, Harish could not pay him as agreed.

Angered by this, Kishan beat up Harish and dragged him back to the plantation where he was locked in a cage, along with several dogs.

The victim was mauled several times by the animals before being let out a few hours later.

After seeking medical treatment, Harish lodged a police report.
