KUALA LUMPUR: In true Malaysian spirit, well-wishers have come together to help young Rohingya refugees and asylum seekers in the country.

More than 90 children from the Rohingya Centre for Children in Ampang received unused and pre-loved items including clothes, toiletries and toys through the #CollectSomethingNice initiative.

The items were donated by netizens and the giveaway was held at Pusat Ilmu Muslim Aid (PIMA) here yesterday.

The donation was part of the bigger # SaySomethingNice Campaign, organised by Zubedy (M) Sdn Bhd since 2011.

Zubedy (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Anas Zubedy said his team spent about a month trying to drive donations for the programme through social media.

“Each year, we choose those who really need help. This year it was the Rohingya,” he said in an interview.

This year, Zubedy (M) Sdn Bhd collaborated with Muslim Aid Malaysia for three programmes including the #CollectSomethingNice initiative.

The #SaySomethingNice adviser Aby Mahmood said the campaign was an opportunity for the public to reach out to communities in need.

The Rohingya children also received copies of a book entitled “Pelbagai Warna, Satu Bangsa” (Many Colours, One Race) written by Anas during the donation giveaway.

The annual #SaySomethingNice campaign, which was launched on Aug 25 this year, runs from National Day to Malaysia Day and is aimed at promoting unity among Malaysians via do-good initiatives.

Those interested to support the #CollectSomethingNice initiative can visit PIMA or call the centre at 03-22881996.
