M’sia to come up with plan to aid refugees
SUBANG JAYA: A plan to help the Rohingya is being drawn up as the Government closely monitors the crisis, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
He said Armed Forces chief Jeneral Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor had been tasked to come out with the action plan which could include providing humanitarian aid.
“I strongly believe if we don’t help them, those who are vulnerable and with no other options could be exploited by militants and extremists,” he said at the Subang Air Base.
He said it was a known fact the Islamic State group had plans to set up a base in the region.
Hishammuddin added that a diplomatic approach using all channels would be used to resolve the crisis in Myanmar.
However, he said there were no plans yet for him to meet his Myanmar counterpart to discuss the situation.
“Not yet but that (diplomacy) is ongoing. We have no problems with our ties with them (Myanmar),” he said.
Yesterday, Hishammuddin and the military’s top brass saw off the latest peacekeeping mission to Lebanon.
