PUTRAJAYA: He closely monitored his daughter’s movements by fetching her to and from school. And he sodomised the teen three times almost every day at fixed intervals – from 6am to 7am, between 1pm and 2pm, and from 11pm to 12.30am at their rented home.

Investigations showed that the man had first sodomised the girl, his eldest, when they were performing the umrah (mini pilgrimage) in Mecca on April 3, 2015.

The man labelled “monster dad”, who faced 623 charges of sexually abusing and sodomising his 15-yearold daughter, has been jailed a total of 48 years and ordered to be whipped 24 times.

The unit trust agent and father of three girls pleaded guilty to the charges at the special court for sexual crimes.

The 36-year-old, who was divorced from the girls’ mother two years ago, appeared calm and showed no emotions.

He stood with his head bowed as judge Yong Zarida Sazali read out the sentences against him yesterday.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim and her officers were present at the court – the first of its kind in South-East Asia launched here on June 22.

The accused, who appeared in allwhite T-shirt and pants, covered his face with a grey T-shirt when brought to the courthouse in handcuffs at 8.45am.

His elder brother – the only family member in court – told reporters later that their mother was heartbroken by her son’s deed.

Judge Yong Zarida jailed the accused after his guilty plea. The accused was sentenced to:

> 20 years’ jail each for 30 counts of physical sexual assault without intercourse from July 11 to 20 under Sections 14 and 16 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

> 15 years’ jail for one count of neglecting, abusing and sexually abusing the child between Jan 1 and July 21 under Section 31(1)(b) of the Child Act 2001.

> 28 years’ jail for one charge of committing incest on July 21 under Section 376A of the Penal Code.

> Be bound over on a good behaviour bond of RM10,000 in one surety, and do community service for 240 hours within six months as provided for under Section 31(2)(a) of the Child Act.

The sentences are to run concurrently from his arrest on July 26, meaning he will be imprisoned for 28 years.

Other sentences against the man are:

> 20 years’ jail each for 591 counts of sodomising his eldest daughter between January and July 20 this year; sentence to run concurrently. > 24 strokes of the rotan.

The judge ordered the 28 years’ and 20 years’ jail sentences to run consecutively.

The man was accused of sodomising his daughter three times daily between January and July 20 this year, except two days before Ramadan and the first day of the fasting month in May.

The incident occurred at their house in Petaling Jaya.

Based on the statement of facts, on July 25, the girl told her mother about the sexual assaults after her father expressed intention to take her two younger sisters under his care as she did not want her siblings to go through a similar experience.

The eldest child lived with the dad while her sisters are with their mum following the divorce.

After their mother lodged a police report on the same day, investigation showed that the accused had first sodomised the girl when they were performing the umrah in Mecca in 2015.

Subsequently, the accused sodomised his daughter three times almost every day.

In mitigation, the accused, who was unrepresented, apologised to the court and said he could not control himself but was remorseful over his acts.

The man was first charged on Aug 9 and 10 and pleaded guilty on Aug 25.

Twenty minutes after court started at 9.25am, judge Yong Zarida informed reporters and those seated at the public gallery that the proceedings would be conducted in camera.

The girl was later called to read her victim impact statement.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Aimi Syazwani Sarmin submitted that the man had acted as a hero when the victim was molested by her uncle in 2015.

But the man, Aimi Syazwani added, then breached the trust by tarnishing the girl’s future by sexually abusing her.

Speaking to reporters later, Rohani said she hoped the sentence would serve as a lesson to others against committing such offences.

The accused’s brother, in his 40s, said the family was shocked by what his brother had done as he was “a loving father and close to his three daughters”.

“My mother’s heart was broken when she learnt what he did to his daughter,” he said after the sentencing.
