Six cops held for accepting money from drug suspects

-

GEORGE TOWN: Six policemen, who allegedly received a RM4,500 kickback following a drug raid, have been arrested by the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission (MACC).

A civilian who allegedly handed the money to them was also detained.

In a statement, the MACC said all seven men, aged between 28 and 49, were picked up at various locations here at about 2am yesterday.

The six policemen had raided a flat unit in Majestic Heights in Paya Terubong and arrested two men who were in possession of four plastic packets of liquid believed to be ketum water.

One of them is a sergeant, three are corporals and the other two are lance corporals.

They allegedly received the RM4,500 bribe from the two drug suspects through the civilian to settle the case.

The civilian is selfemployed. The MACC stated that the six policemen are from the George Town district police contingent and are still being detained at the Penang MACC headquarters here for further investigation.

It did not say when the raid took place nor when the bribe was handed over to the policemen.

All seven were arrested under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar, however, could not be reached for comment yesterday.
