PUTRAJAYA: Rukun Negara should not merely be recited during school assemblies and functions but be the focus to help achieve greater unity among citizens.

With that in mind, #RukunNegaraSomethingNice project was launched to get Malaysians to appreciate and focus on the goals of the principles of nationhood.

A collaboration with the National Unity and Integration Department, it is one of Zubedy (M) Sdn Bhd’s core project under the #SaySomethingNice hashtag for 2017.

#SaySomethingNice is an annual campaign since 2011 aimed at creating a positive Malaysia by “creating million moments of unity”.

Open to Rukun Negara clubs and secretariats and Rukun Tetangga, participants are to pen creative, positive and heartfelt expression of Rukun Negara on posters specially made for the campaign, which will run until Nov 30.

At the launch of #RukunNegaraSomethingNice, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup called on the people to understand the Rukun Negara and uphold its principles.

“When we recite the Rukun Negara, it must not be something that we verbally express. It’s importance, meaning and goals must be felt.

“It is my wish to see this project bring out the love we have for this country,” he said.

Unity advocate and Zubedy managing director Anas Zubedy said people must not view the country through racial lenses.

“Neither should we look at it from the lenses of a Sabahan, Sarawakian or a person from the peninsula,” he said.

Zubedy also said to make Malaysia great and united, the Government and its people must choose what they pay attention to.

He added that the #RukunNegaraSomethingNice campaign aims to get Malaysians to pay attention to Rukun Negara and its values and goals.

“Rukun Negara can generate important keywords like unity, progressive, just, democratic, fair, equitable and liberal.

“Slowly but surely, Rukun Negara will act as the pillar that unites us,” Zubedy said.
