Man alleges finding maggot in nasi kandar at Ipoh outlet

-

IPOH: A photo of a maggot found in a plate of rice at a famous nasi kandar restaurant here is going viral over social media.

A customer in his 40s from Selangor claimed he had gone to the restaurant on Wednesday for lunch, and while he was having his food he found the maggot inside.

The man lodged a police report at the Pekan Baru station, claiming that feedback from the staff was not satisfactory.

However, a counter report was lodged at the Ipoh police station, claiming there were people spoiling the reputation of the wellknown outlet.

State Health Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said food safety and cleanliness has always been the priority, with the department conducting many spot checks.

He said action had also been taken against premises that failed to adhere to the standards.

“In this case, I will immediately ask the department to send a team to check on the outlet, and carry out investigations,” he said.

When met at the outlet, its owner said this was not the first time people were making allegations against the food served at the outlet.

He said that since many people from Perak and other states visited the outlet often, including politicians and other VIPs, there could be certain parties who were jealous.

“I think this is the third or fourth time people have made statements which are not true,” he said.

“I will not hesitate to take court action against anyone who continues to make such allegations.”

The owner also claimed that the Ipoh City Council’s health inspectors had checked the outlet on Thursday morning, and found nothing wrong with the eatery.
