New route for Penang Starwalk

GEORGE TOWN: It’s a new milestone for Penang Starwalk 2017 as the event enters its 40th edition at a new venue – Gurney Paragon Mall.

More than 20,000 participants will explore a different part of Penang island during the 7km fun walk tomorrow.

Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk Maimunah Mohd Sharif will flag off the event at 7am.

In the past, it was held at other venues namely the Esplanade, Penang International Sports Arena (now SPICE) and Penang Times Square.

From Gurney Paragon Mall, participants will walk along Gurney Drive, Tanjung Tokong Road, Jalan Seri Tanjung Pinang and back to the starting point.

Penang Starwalk 2017 will also retain a charity segment called “Walk With Us” in which residents of various welfare homes will stroll for 1km with representatives from the companies sponsoring them.

This charity walk has been a regular affair since 2011.

The walk is jointly organised by Star Media Group Bhd and the Penang Amateur Athletics Association.

The platinum sponsors are YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YES) and Naza Kia (M) Sdn Bhd while silver sponsors are Eastern & Oriental Bhd, F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd, Federal Oats Mills Sdn Bhd, Health4U Solution Sdn Bhd, Perfect Food Manufacturing (M) Sdn Bhd and Chuan Sin Sdn Bhd.

The venue sponsor is Gurney Paragon while the ride-sharing partner is Mula Car International Sdn Bhd.
