‘Ideas reflect dreams of youths’

Zambry: Some proposals can be recommended to Govt

IPOH: Setting up the state’s own Silicon Valley and floating farms were among the ideas floated at the Perak Festival of Ideas.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the interesting ideas reflect the youths’ dreams and visions.

“Ideas are important in life. It’s how some things came to be.

“I have already gathered plenty of ideas related to robotics, land management, parents and teachers’ role in schools and others,” he said after attending a talk on robotics for pupils at the state library here yesterday.

Held from Sept 612, the Perak Festival of Ideas is a celebration of ideas with over 60 events and activities.

Dr Zambry said he has received thousands of good ideas from the people, and some of them could possibly be recommended to the Federal Government to be included in Budget 2018.

One such idea that was put forward at a forum on Thursday was to allow donations for ParentTeacher Association (PTA) to be taxexempted, he said.

“This is one way to encourage corporations to carry out corporate social responsibility at schools.

“I understand that donations made to schools are taxexempted but not for the PTA,” said Dr Zambry, adding that he has already conveyed this idea to the Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

He added that he hoped to gather 10,000 ideas from the festival, which is a platform for people to express their creativity, innovation, visions and dreams.

Among the festival’s programmes are seminars, forums and conferences, as well as events such as hot air balloon fiesta, literature sharing session, art exhibition, music showcase and interfaith dialogue.

The culmination of the festival is the Pangkor Dialogue, to be held at the Amanjaya Convention Centre on Sept 11 and 12.
