Netizens: Punishment too light

Many say justice not fully served on man who sodomised daughter

-

PETALING JAYA: Netizens are lamenting that the punishment of 48-year jail term for the divorcee who sodomised his daughter three times a day is too light.

The 24 strokes of rotan ordered by the court was also deemed insufficient for many who left comments on The Star Online’s Facebook.

Abby Saan said a life sentence should be imposed as the girl was sexually abused over a prolonged period.

“The saddest part is he is the girl’s biological father. Wishing the girl well and hope she gets the right help, care and support,” she said.

Barbara Yong added: “Should be whipped 600 times, equivalent to what he had done. No pity for him.”

On Friday, the man, who is a unit trust agent and father of three girls, pleaded guilty to 623 charges of sexually abusing his daughter.

The special court for sexual crimes judge Yong Zarida Sazali meted out the sentences to the man for committing incest, physical sexual assault without intercourse, abusing, neglecting, sexually abusing the child and for sodomising the victim.

Chitra Supuramaniam commented: “Psycho. You are worse than an animal. Even animals know how to care for their young ones.”

Many even called for a death sentence to serve justice, and commented that it would be “a waste of taxpayers’ money” to provide for the man for 48 years in prison.

To this, Sures Thambuthurai said: “Believe me jail time is not a walk in the park. If he was given the death sentence, then the commenters here will say ‘Oh it’s too easy, painless and quick.”

Others worried for the 15-yearold daughter, who exposed her suffering to protect her sisters.

Based on the statement of facts, she told her mother about the sexual assaults after her father expressed intention to also take her two younger sisters under his care.

“What happened to their relatives?

“No one noticed something’s not right with this father and his daughter?

“How about the girl’s mother? This is so sad.

“No matter how heavy the punishment, nothing can be done to undo the harm onto her soul. May God help her,” Vinson Lee wrote.
