Pakatan not united, says Liow

‘They have varying ambitions and only good at playing up issues’

RAWANG: Pakatan Harapan has little chance to form the Federal Government as the component parties within the coalition have different ambitions, says MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

“All of them have different ambitions and different values. They are only good at playing up issues.

“Each has its own agenda. Pakatan Harapan will lead people nowhere,” he said after launching the 48th Selangor MCA Youth annual general meeting.

Liow also said the recent development in PKR showed there are problems that could not be solved.

“There will be more conflicts surfacing in the days to come, as there are lots of internal issues and disagreements within PKR and Pakatan Harapan,” he added.

Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad recently admitted that the coalition is having some problems with PKR due to its uncertain stance regarding cooperation with PAS in the coming polls.

PKR’s Selayang MP William Leong recently resigned from the party’s political bureau as he was upset at PKR’s unending effort to court PAS.

By comparison, Liow said all component parties in Barisan Nasional are united.

“Cooperation between MCA and other component parties is going on smoothly and this will also strengthen the coalition,” he said.

Earlier in his speech, Liow condemned DAP for cheating the Chinese community.

“They previously said a vote for PAS is a vote for the DAP and from that they garnered support from the Chinese community.

“However, they later split up with PAS and claimed PAS had changed when the latter proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts Act, while PAS has always been harbouring its Islamic agenda,” he said.

Liow also said DAP leaders Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng are political leaders with no principles.

“They cooperate with (PAS president) Datuk Seri Hadi Awang, (PKR adviser) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and now Tun Dr Mahathir. To garner votes, they can rationalise all their actions,” he said.

On another matter, Liow said the seat allocation in the next general election for Barisan would be done in the spirit of consensus and power-sharing.

“Any issue will be discussed at the Barisan presidential council meeting,” he said.
