Making golf a fun game

The Carlsberg Classic is more than just a tournament – it’s also about enjoying the sport

-

A GREAT number of local golf competitions offer the players numerous incentives but the Carlsberg Classic, the country’s biggest and longest running amateur tournament, got off to a fast pace with more than RM3mil on the line and loads of fun as well.

Following the start in August, the amateur tournament was greeted with an overwhelming response of well over 700 golfers participating at seven golf clubs. This was at Bukit Jawi Golf Resort in Penang, Kelab Sungai Petani in Kedah, and Kelab Rekreasi Tentera Udara (KRTU), Kelab Golf Titiwangsa PDRM, Templer Park Country Club, Glenmarie Golf & Country Club and Royal Selangor Golf Club in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

As a result, the 14 gross and nett winners from the qualifying rounds not only won a 40-inch Sharp LED TV each, but also received invitations to celebrate their victories with 10 family members and friends at Carlsberg Malaysia’s brewery in Shah Alam.

They also qualified to represent their respective home clubs in the Carlsberg Classic national final to be held in December.

The rewards for hole-in-one are a Mercedes-Benz C250 and C200, a Sharp 70-inch LED TV and an Ogawa Masterdrive massage chair.

Commenting on the event, Carlsberg Malaysia managing director Lars Lehmann said: “Carlsberg is turning 170 years young this November and we believe that there is no better way to celebrate the milestone than hosting winners of Carlsberg Classic and their golf buddies to a night of great fun at our brewery.

“Adding excitement to the game, we have incorporated three types of fun games from where golfers can take home our latest product innovation, the Carlsberg Smooth Draught.

“At the par-3, every golfer swings the club with a grand prize in mind, but we also have lucky golfers who landed the ball nearest to the Carlsberg Smooth Draught inflatable bottle in the “Nearest to Bottle” contest. These players are rewarded with an adidas ball marker belt.”

The fun of the Carlsberg Classic doesn’t end with the last putt. Golfers who capture and upload the most quirky photos on social media with their names, together with the hashtags #probablythebest, #CarlsbergGolfClassic and #name-of-golf-club win the Best Group Picture game and receive a 6-can pack of Carlsberg Smooth Draught each.

That’s not all. Golfers who land the ball on the green with their tee-shot at the two nearest-to-pin holes stand a chance in the “Lucky Pick” game where draws to win TaylorMade products are conducted.

To celebrate Carlsberg’s 170th global anniversary, this year’s event has 22 qualifying rounds around the country.
