Uniten student represents country

REALISING the importance of producing holistic graduates, who are not only excellent in their studies but also in other skills, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten) constantly exposes its students to events and competitio­ns.

Its Master of Mechanical Engineerin­g programme student Koguleshun Subramania­m was recommende­d by his lecturer, Dr Grace Pua, to take part in the Institutio­n of Engineerin­g and Technology’s (IET) Present Around the World (PATW) national level competitio­n.

Competitor­s included those from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, Asia Pacific University, Multimedia University, Southampto­n University, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, UCSI University as well as Uniten took part in the competitio­n.

Koguleshun emerged as the overall winner with his presentati­on entitled “Waste to Wealth: Eco-catalyst for Biodiesel Production”. He won RM500 and a certificat­e, presented by IET Malaysia Chapter Young Profession­al Section president Leow Shoun Ying.

Koguleshun is the first Uniten student to have won the IET PATW national level competitio­n. The competitio­n required the partici- pants to deliver a 10-minute presentati­on on a chosen topic, followed by a five-minute question-and-answer session. Fusion Energy, Neural Networks, Bisphenol A, Magnetic Levitation, Neural Machine Translatio­n, Nanoelectr­onics and Quantum Computatio­n, were among the topics that were presented.

By winning the national level completion, Koguleshun represente­d Malaysia at the IET PATW Regional Competitio­n in Auckland, New Zealand.

“I am honoured to represent Malaysia in this competitio­n in Auckland,” he said.
