Lip-syncing her way to fame
Nur Amira a Facebook sensation with her jovial and funny ways
KLANG: A 30-year-old woman is fast becoming a social media star after clips of her lip-syncing popular songs went wild on Facebook.
Nur Amira Maslan, who calls herself Kak Girl, started uploading the clips after she won a lip-syncing competition in June last year.
“I participated in the lip-syncing contest organised by Sinar FM and won the top prize of RM3,000,” said Nur Amira who lives in Johor Baru.
Within a short time, her clips have received nearly 80,000 likes and followed by more than 83,000 people.
Her growing popularity on Facebook also garnered her a job as an announcer with a Johor-based radio station two months ago.

Amalapuram from the Madhavanstarrer Aarya.
In the short clips uploaded by Nur Amira, she lip-syncs while moving to the rhythm of the music and making expressive hand and facial gestures.
The clips are mostly shot in a car being driven by her husband Mohamad Hafizi Marzuki and the added bonus is the 26-year-old man’s poker face as he keeps driving without even throwing a glance at Nur Amira’s antics.
“He is used to my funny ways and has become immune and that is why he is able to sit through my performance without any expression,” said Nur Amira, adding that she also lip-syncs Hindi, Malay, English, Spanish and Korean songs.
The jovial woman said she is most comfortable with Hindi songs as it is easier for her to memorise the lyrics for lip-syncing due to decades of exposure to Bollywood movies.
“Both my parents are big-time Bollywood fans and we grew up watching Hindi movies all the time,” she said.
“My family is also very wacky and we sang Hindi songs and danced all the time with my father being the leader of the gang,” added Nur Amira, who is the eldest of five children.
Her parents Maslan Abdullah, 56, and Rohaya Bastam, 52, who live in Kampung Melayu Majidee, Johor Baru, are still big Bollywood fans, said Nur Amira.
Her expression and dancing skills, said Nur Amira, came from the training by her mother.
“Whenever we took part in the school concert or talent shows, my sister and I would do a Bollywood number and my mother would choreograph the dance routine for us,” said Nur Amira.
She said she was surprised by all the support she is receiving on Facebook, instead of getting the brickbats she had expected.
