Charred remains of elderly woman found

-

KULAI: The charred remains of a senior citizen who reportedly set herself on fire was found in a rubbish dumping ground in Taman Putri here.

Johor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Azman Ayob said the 63-year-old woman left behind a handwritten note before her body was found at around 7.45am on Friday.

He said police received a report from a man who discovered the charred remains and a team of policemen including the forensics unit and K9 were sent to the scene to investigate.

“Her body was found by a man who was in the area to look for worms as fishing bait,” he said yesterday.

He added that the area was also used as a short cut to a quarry nearby and investigations found that no foul play involved.

A post mortem report showed that the woman’s body was about 60% burnt and there were no signs of injury by weapons on the body, he said.

SAC Azman added that the woman stayed with her husband, mother-in-law and a son while her two daughters worked and lived in Singapore.

“Her husband and their 19-yearold son said they noticed the woman’s unusual behaviour at home for the past week as she looked unhappy and quiet,” he said, adding that there were no arguments between the husband and wife.

The woman reportedly had an argument with her 83-year-old mother-in-law before leaving the house.

By the time her husband and son noticed her note, she was nowhere to be found.
