Public helps youth get new hearing aid

-

A HEARING-IMPAIRED polytechnic student in Pasir Gudang, Johor, was all smiles after receiving a new hearing aid.

Metro Ahad reported that 20-yearold Amirul Asyraf Mohd Aidi owed RM21,000 to a company which had loaned him a hearing aid that the Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan student later misplaced.

A desperate Amirul Asyraf appealed on Facebook for the public’s help to find the device.

Although it could not be found, public donations poured in, enabling him to repay the company in full.

After clearing the debt, he was free to apply for a new hearing aid from Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

“Now it’s easier for me to communicate with people. I’m so grateful to those who helped me,” said the youth.

> Norman, the vocalist in Malay band Panji, has come down with a mysterious illness, which started about four months, the newspaper also reported.

He started experiencing severe stomach pain while performing at a hotel in Kuantan.

“I went to see the doctor the next day but he could not find anything wrong with me.

“A few days after I returned to my village in Dungun (Terengganu), the pain returned; I started losing my appetite, feeling lethargic and losing a lot of weight,” said Norman, 55, whose real name is Mohd Nor Husin.

Fellow singer Rahmat Mega and the vocalist of Malay band Success, Aju, visited Norman at his house in Kampung Tanah Lot.

Rahmat said he found out about Norman’s illness while at the wedding of his business partner, Harun Sidek, in Dungun.

He said Harun had taken Norman to several public hospitals while his family had sought traditional cures, but all to no avail.

Now it’s easier for me to communicate with people. I’m so grateful to those who helped me.
