Morten: Thank you for the memories
Badminton Association of Malaysia ( BAM) technical director Morten Frost is thankful that he got the opportunity to serve Malaysian badminton over the last 2½ years.
The 59-year-old Dane tendered his resignation on Sept 11 but it was only accepted by BAM yesterday.
Frost, whose five-year contract was supposed to end after the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, was in no mood to elaborate about his premature resignation.
“I don’t want to talk about it but I’m thankful for all the good memories. I’m glad I was given a chance to head the Malaysian team,” said Frost, who can be credited for strengthening the coaching and training structure since he was hired in March 2015.
His efforts saw Malaysia win many lower-ranked tournaments which led to improvements in the shuttlers’ world rankings.
Some of the highlights of Malaysia’s achievements under his charge included winning three silvers at last year’s Rio Olympics and reaching the semi-finals of the Thomas Cup Finals.
Other highs included men’s doubles pair Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong being ranked world No. 1, Goh Jin Wei emerging as 2015 world junior champion and also winning a bronze at the 2015 Singapore SEA Games.
Malaysia also bagged two golds at the 2015 Singapore Games during his time as BAM technical director.
