CM: Civil servants required to join Gerah

Melaka is the first state to issue directive to all govt staff, says Idris

MELAKA: Civil servants in the state will be required to register as members of the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission’s Gerakan Revolusi Anti-Rasuah (Gerah).

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron gave the directive when launching the state-level Kembara Jelajah Anti-Rasuah 2017 (Kejar ‘17) at the Proclamation of Independence Memorial in Banda Hilir yesterday.

Melaka is the first state in the country to issue such a directive.

Idris said all married civil servants would also have to enlist their spouses to be Gerah members.

“I will give state financial officer Datuk Roslan Ibrahim two weeks to execute the task,” he added.

Also present at the launch were Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob, who later flagged off the Kejar ‘17 convoy to Johor, and MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad.

Idris said the MACC was also free to investigate anyone in the state suspected of corruption, including “those who claimed to have a close rapport with the Chief Minister”.

At a press conference later, Dzulkifli praised Idris for the directive to all state civil servants to be Gerah members.

He thanked the chief minister for being very supportive towards the MACC’s initiative to fight and eradicate corruption.

The Kejar ‘17 convoy will be heading to Pahang after Johor. The tour will end on Sept 30 before the commission’s golden jubilee cele- brations on Oct 1.

On another matter, Dzulkifli said the MACC was still seeking witnesses to assist in its probe into a vice protection racket involving police officers in the state.

He said some of them had fled the country and efforts were underway to trace them.

Last August, the MACC had listed 12 men required to help in the probe.
