Matthew takes hattrick of second bests in his stride

“We had a good win over Perak but a strong performanc­e is much more important. Everyone is combining well and we are looking dangerous,” said Matthew.

“We expect another strong performanc­e against Sarawak in the league. It might give us a chance to rotate the players, but we are still motivated to finish on a high.” a runner-up finish.

“That’s my story this year, but I’ll learn from these experience­s,” said Matthew yesterday.

“Having these big matches under my belt is a good thing and will hold me in good stead.

“It’s disappoint­ing to enjoy a good run to the final, get all hyped up and then end up not winning titles.

“We are focused on finishing as high as possible in the league. Finishing second might get us into the AFC Cup and that’s a big motivation.”

The marauding rightback chalked second spot in the Super League with three matches remaining, starting with the game against Sarawak at the Darul Makmur Stadium tonight.

Pahang’s other matches are against T-Team (Sept 30) and Perak (Oct 21).

Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) have wrapped up the Super League title with four matches to spare last month. Kedah are second with 34 points, followed by Pahang a point behind in the 12-team standings.

The Perth local said that Pahang can still finish strongly in the Super League, although at best it would be PETALING JAYA: It looks like Pahang skipper Matthew Davis is destined to play the bridesmaid’s role for the third time this season.

The 22-year-old’s first disappoint­ment came when the Elephants finished runners-up in the FA Cup following their 3-2 loss to Kedah in the final on May 20.

The Australian-born player suffered his second heartbreak when the national Under-23 team lost 1-0 to Thailand in the SEA Games football final on Aug 29.
