CP footballers thump Cambodia to enter semis

-

THE national cerebral palsy (CP) football team checked into the semi-finals after trouncing hapless Cambodia 12-0 in their final Group A match.

Mohd Farissan Jasnal helped himself to five goals (7th, 14th, 24th, 36th and 49th minutes) at Field C, National Sports Council in Bukit Jalil yesterday.

Mohamad Sobri Ghazali scored four goals (16th, 22nd, 46th and 52nd) while Muhammad Khair Ismail (30th), Muhamamad Uthman Surur (37th) and Muhammad Zul Asyraaf Zulkifli (54th) netted one each.

The win sees Malaysia top the threeteam group with six points and they are likely to meet defending champions Thailand in the last four.

Winless Singapore and Cambodia will play their last Group A match today to decide the runners-up.

National team coach Asnan Mohd Zuki praised his men for playing well and said “we will be ready to meet Thailand”.

The Thais were stunned 2-1 by dark-horses Indonesia in the second Group B match.

“My players showed their mental strength in the (5-3) win over Singapore (on Monday). Against Cambodia today, they showed their ruthlessness to win big. So, I’m happy with their performances," said the 61-year-old Asnan.

“It looks like we’ll meet Thailand in the semi-finals and I think we can beat them. Indonesia have done it and it looks like they are the stronger team.”
