Andrea sets up semi-final clash against senior Rachel
Andrea Lee has set up a second clash against senior Rachel Arnold.
The 18-year-old Andrea came out tops against the 21-year-old Rachel with a four-set win in the final of the Malaysian Tour Squash Circuit (SSJM) No. 10 two weeks ago.
Andrea is looking to keep that run going when she faces Rachel in today’s semi-finals of the SSJM No. 11.
In yesterday’s quarter-finals at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil, Andrea beat junior Noor Aina Amani Ampandi 11-3, 11-7, 10-12, 11-9 while Rachel defeated Ooi Kah Yan 12-10, 11-3, 11-8.
“I made a number of mistakes and allowed Aina to come back into the game. Luckily, I managed to pull through,” said Andrea.
“Now, I hope to make it two wins in a row over Rachel.”
Top seed Rachel said: “I didn’t play that well against Andrea the last time. I started very slow and I didn’t really wake up until I was two sets down.
“This time I hope to stay in the game right from the start. I definitely want to beat her.”
In other matches, S. Sivasangari, fresh from winning the Beijing Squash Challenge last week, edged Japan’s Satomi Watanabe 11-9, 10-12, 11-4, 11-7.
Second seed Sivasangari will meet Scotland’s Lisa Aitken for a place in the final.
In the men’s event, top seed Mohd Syafiq Kamal recovered from 6-8 down in the fifth set to beat Iran’s Zareian Jahromi 11-9, 9-11, 11-9, 4-11, 11-8 for a place in the last four.
The 21-year-old Syafiq next faces Pakistan’s Amaad Fareed, who downed Hong Kong’s Lau Tsz Kwan 6-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-7.
The other semi-final is an all-Malaysian affair between Elvinn Keo and Mohd Addeen Idrakie.
