Govt to heed Johor Ruler’s views on RTS

-

JOHOR BARU: The views of Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar on the proposed Rapid Transit System (RTS) rail track will be taken into account by the Government.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan had an audience with the Ruler on Sept 19 to brief His Majesty on details of the project.

“In that meeting, His Majesty expressed his views. I humbly heed the views of His Majesty and will take them into account in improving the RTS project,” Abdul Rahman said in a statement.

The RTS track will link Bukit Chagar here and Woodlands in Singapore.

Abdul Rahman said the Government is committed to signing the agreement with Singapore by the end of this year.

“The people of Malaysia and Singapore can look forward to better connectivity and accessibility once the proposed RTS is completed in 2024,” he added.

It was earlier reported that Sultan Ibrahim welcomed the project but did not agree with the curved design of the track as well as the plan to build the bridge as high as 30m above water in the middle section.

The Government had announced that the two countries were expected to sign a bilateral agreement for the RTS project – which would improve travel between Singapore and Johor – in December.
