Girl, 11, fights off 16-year-old trying to rape her

-

JULAU: An 11-year-old girl bravely fought off a teen who tried to rape her. Much later, she told her grandfather about the incident.

The boy, a 16-year-old dropout, was finally arrested by police on Wednesday, 12 days after the attempted rape.

Julau OCPD Deputy Supt Bidol Noyeng said the boy was picked up from his longhouse, which is about a three-hour drive from here.

Police have obtained a week’s remand order against him.

“The case came to light when the victim, a Year Five pupil, told her grandfather that while she was in her bedroom on the night of Sept 8, the suspect came in and tried to rape her,” he said.

The girl apparently put up a good fight before would-be rapist ran off. The suspect, according to DSP Bidol, is working in an oil palm estate.

It is not known whether he is related to the girl, who has been sent for a medical examination.

The case is being investigated under Section 14 (d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Separately, a 61-year-old farmer was detained for allegedly raping a 15-year old girl in Dalat, about two hours by boat from Sibu.

The case came to light after the girl’s mother made a police report on Wednesday that her daughter had been raped by the man in his house on Sept 13.

Dalat District police chief Asst Supt Awang Arfian Awang Bujang said police went to the man’s house near Kampung Medong the same night and arrested him.

The suspect was remanded for four days.
