> Monthly inconvenience

I’m a 75-year-old pensioner. I go to the hospital to get my medicines once every three months. In March this year, I was told the hospital dispenses medicine on a monthly basis. The reason given was lack of budget. It is not easy for people like me to visit the hospital every month. My kids are working and travelling on assignments and I’m unable to go on my own because of health problems. Why are things becoming more difficult for the older generation? It is true that we need BR1M but we need our medicines more. – Asma

> Merry-go-round

I found out that not all gambling items are seized during raids at many gambling dens. Only a few or faulty computers and gambling machines are seized or those outlets where machines were seized would have them returned after a few hours. - Observer

> Impose stiffer penalty

NGOs are protesting the penalty of RM400 for cars that are towed away ( The Star, Sept 21). But KL is suffering an epidemic of illegal and selfish parking. If it were up to me, the penalty would be double and the number of tow trucks 20 times more. We Malaysians seem incapable of doing the right thing unless under the threat of penalties. - Orang Tinggi

> Value their sacrifice

Armed Forces veterans are a forgotten lot. Many of them are living below the poverty line. Value their sacrifices. Government should recognise and reward them. – Subra

> Help the poor

It is very encouraging to see our country’s economy growing but it is still not trickling down to the ordinary people. Mega projects should bring long-term gains. Hope the Government can undo bottlenecks that prevent money from going down to the ordinary folk.

> River clean-up

Peninsular Malaysia should heed the words of Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman regarding polluted rivers. I remember that decades ago, rivers in the United States were so polluted no fish could live in them. The relevant authorities cleaned the rivers and engaged “river captains” to maintain them. The water is clear now and teems with fish.

> Taking charge

Having children is a dream for many. But the heavy responsibilities that come with parenting can be easily overlooked. Some try their best but still fail. Some don’t try at all, which is pure irresponsibility. – Take Charge It’s time for parents to become more responsible. The law should hold them responsible for offences committed by under-aged individuals living in the same house as them. Someone has to be held responsible because children lack maturity. Only when someone is given charge will there be order. – Perspective
