Najib pays a visit to Wanita Umno veteran

-

PEKAN: It was a poignant moment for former Kampung Baru Salong branch Wanita chief Fatimah Mahidin when she met the Prime Minister.

The 76-year-old had woken up early to don her old Wanita Umno attire – red scarf and white and red baju kurung – which was still neatly kept despite her no longer being active in the party.

Alawiyah Saman, 53, told reporters that her mother was happy to learn that Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would be visiting their home.

“My mother woke up early in the morning and wore the Wanita Umno official attire because her ‘bapak’ (Najib) was coming for a visit.

“The clothes are still neatly kept even though she is no longer active in the party due to her illness,” she said here yesterday.

During the visit, Najib spent about 15 minutes talking to Fatimah, who is suffering from high blood pressure and nerve problems in her legs.

He asked after her health and that of her family, and handed over contributions in the form of diapers, milk and cash.

“We all share our deepest feelings of grati- tude to the Prime Minister on his visit to our house, especially since our mother and late father were the founders of Umno in this village (Salong),” Alawiyah said.
