KUALA LUMPUR: So called “chosen” candidates for the next general election are spoiling the party’s image, said MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.

Labelling them “wolves in sheep’s skin”, he said they also caused internal strife.

Dr Subramaniam added that these individuals were spoiling the chances of the real candidates, whose names were yet to be announced.

“This group is dangerous to the party and may cause confusion. We need to weed out these negative elements otherwise it will bring down the party at a very crucial moment, especially with the general election looming,” he said in his speech at the party’s 71st annual general meeting here yesterday.

The Health Minister also said Barisan Nasional president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had initiated a lot of programmes to help the community, including the introduction of the Indian Blueprint.

“There is enough proof that BN is fair to all races,” he said, adding that the blueprint addressed economic, education, citizenship and other issues.

He said MIC was still relevant to the Indian community despite claims from critics.

“Based on our studies, 85% of former members had returned to the fold and this is a positive sign that MIC is still important to the Indian community,” said Dr Subramaniam.

He said MIC had been allocated nine parliamentary and 18 state seats in the coming general election and would be targeting to win eight parliament and 14 state seats.
