Youngster Amir bags another top-three finish
Amir Nazrin Jailani is continuing to make waves in his rookie season as a professional when he finished joint third at the PGM EurAsia Sabah Championship for his best-ever show on the Asian Development Tour (ADT).
The 19-year-old Malaysian carded a two-under 70 at the Sabah Golf and Country Club in Kota Kinabalu yesterday to finish with a two-under 286. Amir took home RM10,330.
American John Michael O’Toole was a runaway winner as he claimed a 12-stroke victory over second-placed Nattapong Niyomchon of Thailand.
O’Toole shot a second successive 70 for a 15-under 273.
Amir was pleased to earn another top-three finish following his joint runner-up finish at the PGAM Players’ Championship last week.
“Although the course is soggy, I played well enough. I’m really proud of myself as this is the first time I managed to earn world ranking points (awarded to the top six finishers in ADT event),” said Amir who represented Malaysia at the 2015 Singapore SEA Games.
“I’ve some good results lately, thanks to the improvements in my mental game.
“I’m getting better in my game management and being positive on the course.”
In July, Amir also contended strongly for a CIMB Classic spot before eventually finishing third
behind winner Danny Chia and Gavin Kyle Green at the CIMB National Championship, the qualifier for the US PGA Tour event.
