Rian puts cash incentive to good use

INDONESIAN Mohamed Rian Prahasta (pic) used the lucrative incentive received after his three-gold feat in table tennis (class 8) at the 2015 Singapore Asean Para Games to buy himself a 400mil rupiah (RM120,000) double-storey house.

The soft-spoken Rian received a total of 600mil rupiah (RM180,000) for his achievements then.

Indonesia rewarded each gold-medal winner with 200mil rupiah (RM60,000).

The 33- year- old father of two has done it again. This time, he picked up another two golds in the men’s singles and team events at the Kuala Lumpur Asean Para Games.

Rian won the singles gold when he defeated teammate Banyu Tri Mulyo 2-0 (11-4, 11-5) in the final at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MiTEC) yesterday.

“This time I plan to get a mobil (car). I need a change because I only have a motorcycle at home. I am planning to get one when I return home,” said Rian, who will be gearing up for the Asian Para Games in Palembang in April next year.

“My goal is to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. I am happy with what I have achieved so far.

“I designed my own house in Jawa Barat and I even have a collection of birds, two monkeys and a few Komodo dragons. It is my hobby,” said Rian.

Last year, he added another 400mil rupiah (RM120,000) after he won the singles, doubles and team events in the para table tennis national championships in Jakarta.

He is set to receive another 400mil rupiah for his two-gold feat in Kuala Lumpur.
