Siblings nabbed for drug trafficking

Police detain man at KLIA2 after sister’s arrest

-

GEORGE TOWN: A suspected drug trafficker thought he could escape the law by running away to Miri but he was arrested at KLIA2 as he was about to board his flight.

The 46-year-old man, nabbed on Friday, was trying to escape after learning that his 44-year-old sister had been arrested at their family home and about RM770,000 in drugs seized.

Acting state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Roslee Chik said police raided a double-storey terrace house in Taman Seri Rambai on Thursday evening following a tipoff and detained the woman.

“A set of keys and an electricity bill with a different address were found on her.

“She led us to another house about 500m away, which they were renting for RM700 a month. It was used as a processing lab for ecstasy pills and counterfeit medicine,” he told reporters yesterday.

DCP Roslee said the police team recovered 7,135 ecstasy pills, 2.13kg of ecstasy powder and 1.3kg of caffeine powder, with a total market value of RM769,250, from the house.

“We also seized four packing machines and some equipment used to process ecstasy,” he added.

He said investigations showed that the brother and sister had been active for the past four months and the drugs were meant for the local market.

“We are trying to determine where the siblings obtained the knowledge to make the drugs and counterfeit medicine.

“Urine tests showed that the two were not addicts but the man has a criminal record for rioting with a weapon.

“They have been remanded for seven days and will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
