-

PUPILS from six Tamil schools in the country bagged 10 gold medals at the International Young Innovators Awards 2017 which took place in Jakarta, Tamil Nesan reported.

The 11 teams from the schools showcased their inventions in Universitas Mercu Buana over the weekend.

The first-timers from SJK(T) Puchong won a special award for a face mask made from discarded eggshells and plastic bottle caps. They also won a gold medal.

Pupils from SJK(T) Kajang did especially well, with their team winning six gold medals, one silver medal and an additional special recognition award for their battery-operated toaster.

> Fans of Vasanthan, a Tamil talk show on RTM2, have criticised the broadcaster for moving the programme to 3.30pm on Wednesdays from its usual 1pm time slot on Sundays, Makkal Osai reported.

They said the programme was one of the few Tamil shows shown on TV, which provided views from the Indian community as well as business leaders, government officials, artists and other notable personalities regularly.

The programme, they added, was considered a good source of information regarding issues faced by the Indians in Malaysia.

Moving it from the Sunday slot, when most viewers would be at home, is a bad move, many interviewed by the paper said.

The fans and representatives from Indian NGOs who spoke to the daily said RTM had a responsibility to broadcast useful and informative shows and to make sure that such shows reach the widest audience possible.
