Man conned of RM100,000 by ‘wife from past life’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: He thought it was a blissful reunion from the heavens when he “married” a woman who claimed to be his wife from a past life.

But it was not to be.

The “honeymoon” turned out to be a living nightmare, resulting in him being cheated of more than RM100,000.

And now, the 53-year-old electrician, known as Cho, has declared it is all over between them.

He just wants to be left alone. His “wife”, known as Lo, 45, still threatens him and his family after he stopped giving her money.

The affair started in April last year when Cho, who is married with three children, got to know Lo and her husband on social media. They became instant friends. A few months later, the woman’s husband told Cho that he (Cho) had been married to Lo in the past life.

Apparently, this was confirmed by a medium.

He then convinced Cho to remarry and arranged for a ceremony to exchange vows at Lo’s house in Malacca.

This was done secretly without the knowledge of Cho’s present wife.

Shortly after the “marriage”, Cho’s nightmare began.

Lo claimed she was a member of an underworld triad from Hong Kong, and that she needed to pay a fee of RM27,000 to leave the group. Cho paid her the sum.

Later, Cho also withdrew RM40,000 from his Employees Provident Fund (EPF) as a downpayment for a new house that Lo wanted to buy.

That is not all. Lo also told him she had a heart condition and needed five injections costing RM15,000 and another RM20,000 to undergo surgery.

Cho surrendered his insurance policies and took out his savings to help her.

He also gave her an additional RM10,000 to settle her debts with loan sharks and for her daily expenses.

In March this year, Cho’s wife found out about the affair and filed for a divorce.

To make amends, Cho gave her his house and half of his EPF savings, about RM55,000.

When Lo found out about this, she became angry and demanded that he give her the money instead.

She repeatedly threatened him and his family when he refused.

Fearing for his family’s safety, Cho lodged a police report on Sept 21.

Speaking at a press conference with MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong, Cho said he just wanted to put behind his miseries.

“I don’t care about the RM112,000 that I lost. I just want her to leave me and my family alone,” he said.
