Felda coach Sathia not over the moon despite win over champs

-

PETALING JAYA: Felda United coach B. Sathianathan is not jumping for joy despite masterminding the 3-2 win over Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).

Instead, the former international wished that “my men can play like JDT”.

Felda beat four-time Super League champions JDT 3-2 in their penultimate fixture at the Shah Alam Stadium on Thursday.

Brazilian Thiago Augusto starred for the Fighters by scoring a brace in the 27th and 64th minutes. Nigerian Ifedayo Olusegun added the other goal in the 44th minute.

JDT replied through Junior Eldstal (37th) and Gonzalo Gabriel (57th).

“We were lucky to beat them because they were the better side. Both teams had their fair share of chances. The only difference is that we took ours better this time.

“I wish we could be of the same standard as this JDT side. We’re only about 70% compared to their level.

“If we are to be title contenders, we have to strengthen the team next season.

“We still have plenty to do,” said Sathianathan.

Only two other teams have beaten the Southern Tigers in the Super League this season.

Perak beat them 2-1 in Ipoh on Feb 17 while Selangor edged them by an identical margin at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium last month.

Sathianathan said the players would take a few days’ break before resuming training to prepare for the Malaysia Cup semi-final clash against Kedah next month.

“The boys are in high spirits to face Kedah, who are the Malaysia Cup defending champions. It won’t be easy playing against them,” said Sathianathan.
