South African Keyser bags his third straight title of the season
PETALING JAYA: South African golfer Mathiam Keyser is in the form of his life – bagging his third straight title in as many weeks.
The 30-year-old had won two titles in the Middle East and North Africa Tour – the Dubai Creek Open and Golf Citizen Classic – over the past two weeks.
He continued from where he left off when he closed with a 70 to clinch the inaugural PGM Labuan Championship title with a six-under 282 total – finishing two shots ahead of nearest rival Sorachut Hansapiban of Thailand at the Labuan International Golf Club yesterday.
Sweden’s Oskar Arvidsson, who led the first two rounds, and joint overnight leader Panuwat Muenlek finished joint third on 285.
Veteran R. Nachimuthu emerged as the best local performer despite managing just a 74 to finish in a three-way tie for fifth with Liu Yanwei and Thai Pannakorn Uthaipas on 286.
Penultimate-round co-leader Shahrifuddin Ariffin failed to secure his maiden Asian Development Tour ( ADT) title after closing with a dismal 77 for joint eighth alongside compatriot Sukree Othman – five shots behind Keyser.
“I came into the week with lots of confidence, having won back-to-back title on the Mena Tour in Dubai before coming over,” said Keyser.
“This win has shown me that all the other aspects of my game is good.
“I’m enjoying my winning run and my golf, and that’s keeping me happy.”
Keyser will try to make it four-in-a-row when he defends his title at the PGM MNRB Championship at the Damai Golf and Country Club in Kuching, Sarawak, from Oct 4-7.
