PAS steadfast in facing challenges, says Hadi
Those who left PAS are forsaking being part of history, said party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
He said PAS would still be around even without these former leaders because of the strong support from the people.
“PAS has always remained steadfast in the face of pressure.
“Whether these people have passed away, run away or deviated, PAS will remain,” Abdul Hadi said in his speech at the Fastaqim 2.0 rally at Pantai Tok Jembal here on Saturday night.
He added that other political parties might perish if they lose in elections but for PAS, winning or losing was not the benchmark.
“Even when we lost Terengganu and Kelantan, we still chose democracy because we are steadfast. We realise our struggles must be peaceful in this country that has different races and opinions.
“Choosing anything other than democracy will cause clashes among the people. We are patient even if it takes a long time,” he said.
Touching on the beer festival debacle, Abdul Hadi said non-Muslims were free to consume alcohol in their own homes and premises.
“They can drink as they please until their stomachs burst. But when drinking can cause road accidents and disturb the peace, we have to act.
“Holding a liquor festival is a different thing altogether.
“We shall wait for the next course of action from the Federal Government and the Selangor government. PAS will never cooperate in sinful
activities. This is an example of our unfaltering determination,” he said.
Abdul Hadi added that PAS would contest as many seats as possible in the next general election.
“We also have many young people in our party. We have a bright future. Let this gathering be a starting point for our future work,” he said.
The Fastaqim 2.0 rally was meant as a display
of the Islamist party’s strength before the elections.
The two-day event drew a massive crowd of party members and supporters nationwide.
The top leadership of PAS and leaders from the Gagasan Sejahtera bloc, an informal coalition of opposition parties made up of PAS, Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia and Berjasa also attended the event.
