I ndonesian Siti Aisyah and Vietnamese Doan ThiT Huong, who have been charged with the murder of Kim Jong-nam, appeared to be in high spirits on the first day of the trial. The Shah Alam High Court heard testimony of how Jong-nam’s hands were trembling when he approached KLIA2 staff for help.

SHAH ALAM: The two women at the centre of the high-profile Kim Jong-nam murder trial have captured the world’s attention.

Since their arrest in February, photos of Indonesian Siti Aisyah, 25, and Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong, 28, looking scared and confused have been splashed all over local and international media.

However, the two appeared to be in high spirits on the first day of the trial at the court complex here yesterday.

Doan, in a white long-sleeved T-shirt with denim overalls, smiled as she walked into the dock at 9am.

Siti Aisyah, who wore a black baju kurung with floral motifs, also appeared to be in a good mood.

Both were calm as the charges were read to them for a second time – the first time being at a Sepang magistrate’s court in March – through their interpreters.

After hearing the charges, both Siti Aisyah and Doan maintained their innocence and claimed trial.

The courtroom was cold from the air-conditioning and both women wore shawls around their shoulders.

They followed the proceedings intently, also through their interpreters.

Earlier in the morning, the court compound was buzzing with activity as local and international media gathered for the accused’s arrival, with some waiting since 1am.

However, the mediamen were barred from entering the complex as police cordoned off the main entrance.

Reporters who were granted entry into the courthouse were not allowed to bring their mobile phones inside.
