EPF pushing e-payment system for bosses in Sabah

-

KOTA KINABALU: The Employees Provident Fund aims to have half of the 29,000 employers in Sabah use the e-payment system by year end.

EPF general manager (contribution department) Azmi Awang said only 34% of employers were using the electronic system – the lowest in the country – despite having good Internet facilities.

Sarawak was the second lowest while Perlis and Perak reached 70%, exceeding the national target of 60% by year’s end, he added.

“This may be due to the lack of confidence users have for e-payments among employers in Sabah.

“Maybe they are unsure about the safety of remitting money through e-payments,” he said.

Azmi said after launching the e-payment open day yesterday that employers in Sabah accounted for about 6% of the RM5.4bil contribu- tion to the EPF every month.

He said the e-payment system was convenient because employers could make payments anytime and anywhere when compared to the manual way, which could only be done during office hours.

Employers with less than 10 employees could even do so through Android-type smartphones, he added.

Azmi said e-payments helped EPF to save RM6mil a year in printing forms.

He said that the payment process through e-payment could be completed within three days, as compared to 21 days through a manual system, such as cheque payments.

He assured users that the e-payment system was completely safe and reliable as there had never been a case of money loss. — Bernama
