KOTA BARU: An embarrassing incident when a group of Malaysian bikers broke traffic rules in Thailand has led to the trip organisers openly apologising to the Narathiwat Governor.

Chopper Garage Club (CGK) Kelantan president Diami Yusoff said that although none of their members were involved, they were taking responsibility as organisers of the Mahabbah 6 expedition to southern Thailand.

“We officially apologise to the Narathiwat Governor and to all the people of Thailand,” he said.

Diami was commenting on a video clip that has gone viral showing Malaysian bikers stopping traffic at a junction in Narathiwat region so that their convoy could pass although the lights were against them.

Their actions were also featured on Thai TV and other media outlets.

Diami led the Mahabbah 6 organising committee to the Royal Thai Consulate in Pengkalan Chepa yesterday to hand over the apology letter addressed to the Governor of Narathiwat.

“We apologise for our negligence in controlling the convoy, as shown in the video clip at the traffic light junction in the Narathiwat region,” he said.

“It happened spontaneously. “But we admit what we did was an offence.

“We promise to follow all the safety regulations in other countries if given opportunity to organise such an event again.

“Once again, we apologise for the mistake and the incident that took place,” said Diami.

The event had also attracted various biker groups.

“We really regret this incident, and we give our word that we will not allow this again,” said Diami.

Chopper Garage MC Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore president and founder Ahmad Junaidi Abdul Aziz hoped the incident would not cause friction among bikers in Malaysia and Thailand.

Ahmad Junaidi also clarified that Chopper Garage Kelantan was not affiliated to Chopper Garage MC Malaysia.

“Chopper Garage MC Malaysia is not involved in this incident,” said Ahmad Junaidi.
