A job not done well, so career fair organiser makes quick switch

-

PETALING JAYA: After deactivating their Facebook page due to netizens’ outrage, the organisers of the “Biggest Career Expo Northern Zone 2017” have allegedly changed the name of the page as well.

The career fair organised by Jobsifu.com was held in Alor Setar, Kedah, last weekend and had claimed that there were more than 5,000 vacancies to be filled.

Hopeful applicants were shocked when they turned up at the event and were told they had to pay RM10 per application form before they could attend interviews.

Angry netizens took to social media to show a screenshot of the Jobsifu.com Malaysia Facebook page, which had been changed to Cuti Cuti Malaysia.

User Nasir Al-Helmy said: “After taking money from graduates and unemployed youths, they are now inviting us to go on holiday.”

Mohd Farhan Madzlan said “We are already not well to do, now we have been cheated as well.”

One of the jobseekers who wanted to be known as Awin had previously told mStar Online that the event was nothing like what she expected it to be.

“I don’t intend to sensationalise this matter but I must explain the exact situation people needed to go through when attending the expo. Not only do I feel disappointed, but I also feel cheated.”

“I’ve attended many career expos before but this is the first time I am faced with a situation where graduates need to buy forms to apply for jobs,” she said.

On the first day of the expo last Saturday, thousands of jobseekers thronged the venue, but the second day was a different story.

According to the Facebook page Aduan Rakyat Kedah, the entrance to the location was rather empty on the second day.

mStar Online’s efforts to get a reaction from the organisers have been unsuccessful.
