Nigerian trio caught with about 17kg of drugs
KUALA LUMPUR: Three Nigerian men entered Malaysia, claiming they were students coming here for business studies.
They certainly put theory into practice but not in any legitimate dealings, police found. Instead, the men, aged about 30, were in the drug trade and operating in the Klang Valley.
They ran their operations out of Cheras for about three months before police crippled the racket in a special operation days ago and seized about 17kg of drugs.
Kuala Lumpur Narcotics Crime Investigations chief Asst Comm Adnan Azizon said the men were initially found with 0.56g of ganja, wrapped in tin foil and estimated to be worth about RM20, when police raided their condominium unit in Taman Connaught, Cheras, on Sept 28.
But after being questioned, they led policemen to a car parked at the premises, where two bags of drugs were found in the boot.
One bag had 9.5kg of compressed ganja packs while the other had 6.9kg. Also found in one of the bags was 67.4g of methamphetamine.
The drugs are estimated to be worth RM43,800 in total.
It was learnt that one suspect tested positive for drugs while the other two came up negative.
“They arrived in Malaysia in 2013, claiming to be studying at a private college,” said ACP Adnan.
He said police believed the suspects could be members of a larger drug ring also operating in the Klang Valley.
The suspects are under remand until tomorrow.
If charged and convicted under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, they face the mandatory death penalty.
