Paper detailing MH370 search being drafted for Cabinet

-

PUTRAJAYA: A paper detailing search efforts and the way forward for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 is being drafted for the Cabinet, says Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

The Transport Minister said the paper would also spell out suggestions on what more could be done by the Government.

“Malaysia is committed in looking for a closure.

“Our officers are poring over the search report released recently as some of these information will be included in the paper. Once ready, we will present it to the Cabinet,” he told reporters.

Liow clarified that the 440-page report by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is on search activities that were carried out.

He said his ministry would study the report for possible new clues.

“We haven’t given up, we will never give up. We are still looking for credible evidence to continue with the search,” he said.

Liow said there were companies offering to help with the search but “only with strong evidence, the search operation for MH370 can restart”.

“I have directed the Department of Civil Aviation director-general to study the report, ” he added.

The disappearance of the Boeing 777 on March 8, 2014, on a flight to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur has become one of the world’s greatest aviation mysteries.

According to the ATSB’s final report, the captain of the aircraft, that vanished somewhere in the southern Indian Ocean with 239 people on board, had flown a route on his home flight simulator six weeks earlier that was “initially similar” to the one actually taken.
