Local traders only at Deepavali bazaar

-

THE organisers of the Deepavali bazaar in Ipoh, Perak’s Little India, will ensure that the allocated stalls are given only to local traders and not outsiders, Tamil Nesan reported Ipoh Barat MIC chairman Tan Sri G. Raju as saying.

The bazaar has been taking place in the area for 25 years with the council’s approval.

This year, the Ipoh City Council has approved 80 temporary stalls to be managed by Ipoh Barat MIC and the Little India Traders Association.

Raju urged the traders to follow the rules set by the council throughout the bazaar period.

He also urged them not to cause any inconvenience to the permanent shops operating in the area or they would face action.

> Residents in the Taman Merak Jaya flats in Simpang Ampat, Penang, have demanded urgent action after the roof of the walkup flats was blown off for the fourth time in 15 years, Makkal Osai reported.

The incident happened during a thunderstorm at around 6am on Monday as residents were leaving for work and school.

It was lucky that none of the 140 families living there was hurt, resident N. Aloysius said.

The first incident happened in 2000, four years after the two blocks of flats were completed, with the last incident being in 2015.

After each incident, the authorities simply repaired the roof and assured residents it would not happen again, residents said.

State assemblyman for Bukit Tambun Datuk Law Choo Kiang and Batu Kawan MP Kasthuri Patto said the matter would be investigated and repairs done immediately.
