GEORGE TOWN: DAP has appointed an independent audit firm to oversee the party’s fresh central executive committee (CEC) election, most likely be held next month.

DAP national legal bureau chairman Gobind Singh Deo, confirmed the matter.

However, he said an official statement will be issued soon.

“There are some logistics issues that have to be finalised and then we will make an official announcement about the re-election,” he said.

Earlier, in an event at Kepala Batas, Registrar of Societies (RoS) director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah said RoS has given its consent to an independent audit firm picked by DAP to oversee the CEC re-election.

He said DAP had proposed the new independent audit firm, which is based in the United States, in replacement of a previous firm after it received strong objections from the party’s grassroots members.

Mohammad Razin said the con- sent was given after RoS reviewed the firm.

“RoS has informed DAP about our consent and it is expected that the re-election may be held on Nov 12.

“However, the party has to decide on the details of the CEC re-election,” he told reporters yesterday.

The RoS in a statement on July 7, said it had no intention of deregistering DAP but told the party to hold fresh CEC polls.

In June, Mohammad Razin directed DAP to hold a re-election of the CEC using the 2012 delegates list.

RoS had declared as null and void the 2013 re-election and deemed all those elected as unlawful in their positions.
