Miros to work with Japan institute to enhance road safety
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros) will be working with the Japanese Automobile Research Institute (Jari) to promote road safety.
In line with its vision to become a leader in road safety research, Miros chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said Miros should be equipped with the necessary technology and capacity.
“The world is now focusing on the Internet of Things concept, where all Internet devices are connected with each other.
“This includes the development of smart vehicles to enhance road safety,” said Miros chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye in a statement.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two parties at Jari test laboratory on Wednesday.
The first was inked in 2010. Lee said Miros and Jari would continue to be good strategic partners in road safety research.
The Miros board also witnessed the 86th crash test under the Southeast Asia New Car Assessment Programme.
Earlier, the delegation, led by Lee, visited the West Nippon Expressway Company Limited (Nexco West) headquarters in Osaka and Nissan Global Heaquarters gallery in Yokohama.
Nexco West is one of Japan’s largest highway operators while Nissan Global is the company’s research and exhibition centre in Japan.
Both parties shared their views on good practices in road safety management during the four-day working visit.
“We also have the opportunity to witness the latest technology in the management of highway and autonomous vehicle technology and called on Malaysian ambassador to Japan, Datuk Ahmad Azlan Idris,” he said.
