Pink’s the colour of choice
Campaign gathers momentum in its drive to raise awareness of breast cancer
THE eighth edition of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia is an event that is painting the town pink this month, as it again joins forces with leading cancer research organisation, Cancer Research Malaysia to bolster the Breast Cancer Awareness Month drive.
This year the tournament is collaborating with several local lifestyle purveyors in Kuala Lumpur - high-end fashion label Dressing Paula, leading F&B outlet All Tasty Ideas, indoor cycling studio Aloha Cycle Club and retailers Royal Sporting House - in support of the cause.
These partners have pledged their support to raise awareness through initiatives that include specially curated menus, dedicated Pink sessions and pledging a portion of their business proceeds to Cancer Research Malaysia.
Shoppers do a bit of good and walk away with two Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia tickets when visiting Dressing Paula outlets in Klang Valley and purchase any normalpriced pink or white items, of which 20% will go to Cancer Research Malaysia.
A percentage of sales made from selected products at Royal Sporting House will also be channeled to the cause.
A number of popular eateries and bars such as The Good Batch, Nara, Hyde and 61 Monarchy have committed to donating RM1 of sales from items on their pink menu. And customers who would like to earn themselves two complementary Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia tickets need to spend RM100 or more at these outlets.
TPC Kuala Lumpur chief executive officer and Tournament Committee chairman Steven Thielke said: “The Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia has a successful and longstanding partnership with Cancer Research Malaysia, which we always seek to activate in innovative ways.
“This year, we are seeking to amplify our efforts in raising awareness of breast cancer and are both delighted and humbled to have local lifestyle partners supporting us.
“With the various “Paint The Town Pink” initiatives taking place throughout the month of October, we hope to reach a wider Malaysian community than before and create a bigger impact with our ‘Women with Drive’ message and everything that the tournament stands for.”
Cancer Research Malaysia chief executive Professor Dr Teo Soo Hwang said: “There is no doubt that this collaboration with Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia has had a direct impact on saving lives in Malaysia.
“Since 2010, we have raised RM2.5mil which we have then used to work towards providing patients with the right information, support and care they deserve to battle breast cancer.
“We would like to thank the local lifestyle partners who have all come on board to support this cause and we look forward to growing awareness of breast cancer among all walks of life in Malaysia,”
The “Paint the Town Pink” campaign will be highlighted by the four-day Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia tournament at TPC Kuala Lumpur from Oct 26-29.
Visitors can stop-over at the Cancer Research Malaysia booth in the Piano Lounge of TPC Kuala Lumpur’s clubhouse and learn more about how one’s involvement could help highlight the importance of recognising research as a crucial element in cancer prevention.
